I hope it shrinks more, but if it doesn't, well go to the Doc soon, check it out, I'm sure it's nothing.
Your pain levels are going down that's great.:D

I stopped logging. I'm fine, but still can't handle Bristol 4 well. Gave me some noticeable spasm the next day. Reminder that it's still there. Didn't make it to the monthly checkup yet.

Fistula

Postby bgd » 21 Sep 2013, 04:23

Just when I thought I was out, they pulled me back in. What started as a simple check-up ended up in a fistulotomy on the spot.

The lump I had turned out to be a fistula, not an abscess. Even though my CRS removed a fold that was creating a pocket in my fissure about a month ago, it seems to have formed again, thus retaining fecal matter. That caused infection on the bottom of the fissure and a subsequent fistula about 2-3cm long. It didn't reach the outside of the anus luckily.

The procedure was pretty awful, I hate needles first of all. Then the CRS drained and cauterized the whole fistula channel and since it was deep I did feel some pain. Less than 2 hours after the procedure I don't feel a lot of pain. No spasm, it's more of a wound like pain on the outside of the anus. And the lump is gone, it seems to have drained pretty well.

The fissure itself didn't heal much in the past month, probably due to the fistula. So it's still around 2mm long. But now that it has been brutalized I'm afraid it will cause pain again. And the challenge is to keep the hole open, so it heals from the inside out.

I'm just afraid this is the beginning of a long series of fistulotomies. So here I am moving to the fistula thread. What a nightmare. I feel it's my fault that I didn't return to the checkup in time.

I slept like a bear after the procedure and upon waking up I don't feel significant pain, just a feeling that something was done there.

abscess/fistula

Postby bgd » 23 Sep 2013, 08:49

I was completely wrong with the description above, as I realized upon self examination and a phone conversation with my CRS. I noticed something funny upon cleaning, a hole next to my anus, which was confirmed by examining with a mirror. So the whole procedure was performed outside the anus and the abscess/fistula was drained outside, by making a cut in the butt basically. A pretty large one, very noticeable, right behind the anus.

The only good thing is that this thing doesn't cause any extra pain during/after BM. In fact it's pretty painless, even though it's an open wound.

fistula

Postby bgd » 26 Sep 2013, 14:36

I had a checkup today and the wound looks fine. Still deep but clean.

I finally understood what's going on down there. The remaining 2 mm of the fissure right at the entrance to the anus has been cut in two along with the fistula and abscess. So the fissure is basically gone, but now I have a cut outside the anus of about 2 cm long and quite deep. But there is no pain. Some swelling during BM, pain levels around 1.

According to the CRS it will take around a month to heal. It is important to keep the wound open and not let it stick together, which might cause other fistulas. Healing should happen by filling bottom-up and not sticking. Sitz baths with disinfectant twice a day.
