Hi Sweet,
I am planning a good four hours walk in the morning to get the blood flowing again. I get a bit bored sat around at home and i have to keep moving otherwise i will just fall asleep.
Ohhh you had pizza? SO UNFAIR!!!! I want Dominos Pizza so bad..... if i survive my Gammon ordeal i plan to still have pizza in a month or two from now (maybe sooner).
It was my post about healing time yes however this related to the healing time of the sphincter - basically after LIS the sphincter takes about one year to return to 80% of its original resting pressure. The fissure itself should heal within 2-4 weeks, in fact my CRS told me to expect full fissure healing within 10-14 days of my surgery.

Okay, that would be a full year to heal the actual sphincter . . . right? My fissure was excised. I think that having the two procedures has made my healing time a bit slower - but I'm on the mend, that's for sure.
Do you have Pizza Hut there in the UK? We tried that last night - a pizza with lots of melted cheese and a thick, soft crust - and it was delicious! (I had to pick the mushrooms off, though, because I'm not a fan of cooked mushrooms.) And at that, I was very careful not to eat too much - just a bit.
I admire your fortitude to walk. I'm thinking about that, too -- I'd like to walk my dog, but she's a Whippet, and it's not easy to keep her at a slow pace, lol. What I'd really like is to ride my bike (my Schwinn), but I'm still feeling too tender to attempt that.

Hi Sweet,
Yeah if you had a fissurectomy at the same time as your LIS then i imagine it would take a little while longer to heal as you have a whole new wound but you should be well on your way now.
I actually live in Central London (Covent Garden) so yeah we have an abundance of pizza shops around here (Pizza Hut, Pizza Express, Dominos, etc.) although i have always favoured Dominos over Pizza Hut for some reason(Saying that i would still kill for a Pizza Hut right now).
By the way your comment, "a pizza with lots of melted cheese and a thick, soft crust" is like Pizza porn to me - do you realise what you are doing to me??? :D
The thing i can't wait for is to go back to the gym and start doing my Cardio again, I used to love my lunchtime sessions. Is your Schwinn a road bike or a mountain bike? I have a Scott, a Marin and an Orange mountain bike at my home in the North East and i used to regular go riding over the North Yorkshire Moors - Cycling is way less fun in London!

Davo, my hubby lived in England for six months, back when he was in college - and I asked him about the area. (He loves the UK!) He said he lived in Norwich - and he says his bike "fantasy" is to ride from Edinburgh to Inverness. --- I'm in central California, where the weather is good most of the year. My neighborhood is an older one - lots of trees and streets where bike riding is pleasant. --- I would imagine that bike riding in London would be difficult, lol.
I'm a bit of a retro gal -- and my bike is a c. 1950, restored Schwinn - lovely - but with only one speed. It's fun to ride and just right for my purposes. --- But that seat! I just cannot fathom sitting my tender bottom on that bike seat right now. Might be awhile.
I do believe that having the two procedures is more difficult to get past. I'm better, but I had a setback several days' ago and have had to get back on track. That said, I'm glad I had the surgery. I'm glad it's over with and that I can concentrate on recovering, so that I can get my life back. I feel like I've lost the past six months, what with dealing with the fissure.
LOL - pizza porn?? Oh, you would have loved the pizza we had last night - mouth watering. I was so glad to be able to eat it - and just feel like a normal person, again. --- I think the best pizza I've ever eaten was in Chicago, where they're known for making some of the most delicious pizza in the country.

Yes Davo, that was me who mentioned the pink discharge, but in my case, it's pretty much gone now. I envy you with a girlfriend at your beck and call to bring you cups of tea. I'd get, "Get it yourself," but that's what comes with 25 years of "marital bliss."
Also, I was out walking my first day after surgery. Due to a mess-up with my paratransit bus reservation, I had to do an eight block walk and the pain that caused down below was nothing compared to the sciatica in my left leg! Life is such an adventure!
Come to think of it, that walking on the day after may have been part of the reason I had a bowel movement that first day. Although I've been up and about since my first day post-op, I have been careful not to strain so much, although the small backpack that goes everywhere with me generally weighs about 15 pounds.
I do have to ask, what is a "Gannon Steak?" And, speaking of this, I had my food mishap yesterday as well. Due to our unseasonally warm weather in the Chicago area, my wife decided that she would fire up the grille. She cooked up some cut up boneless chicken breasts and some kifta kabobs. These are ground beef mixed with finely chopped parsely and some Middle Eastern seasoning, then formed into long narrow patties, like a flat hot dog. She also did up some mixed veggies, which I always love on the grille. Well, I was a good boy, staying away from the red meat kabobs and sticking with the chicken. Of course being soft from cooking, I didn't hesitate at all with the veggies. The chicken was great, with just enough BBQ sauce on it to give a great flavor. Next up was a heaping fork full of veggies. A couple of chews and my face was the contorted mass of pain. What I had not realized, and what my wife had failed to mention, was that the green pepper in the mixed veggies was not bell pepper, but rather some extremely hot jalepenos. Normally, she cooks the hot peppers whole, but for some reason, she decided to cut them up as she'd usually do to bell peppers.
My mouth eventually cooled down, but today, I ended up with two bowel movements and some after action pain. I am assuming that was from passing the hot peppers.
Live and learn!

Rob, would those "kifta" kabobs be anything like an Armenian "lulu" kabob? Kinda sounds like it. Lulu kabobs are made of seasoned ground meat, too - and they're shaped like hotdogs.
Just thought I'd ask . . .

Carol Ann, I would guess that they are one and the same, or, if not, quite similar. Kifta kabobs are what Assyrians call them. The two groups are fairly close, so I would imagine their diet is as well.
Hope you are doing well.

Hi, Rob - thanks for inquiring about me. I'm hanging in there - I got past my setback of last week, but I still feel a bit of discomfort. That said, I am making progress -- it's just a bit more incremental than I'd like, but I'm happy to be past my surgery and on the road to recovery.
How are you doing? I hope you're doing well. I mentioned Chicago pizza to Davo -- we were talking about pizza, and I told him that the best pizza I had was in Chicago. Great pizza! We don't quite have that kind here.

POST LIS – DAY #6 (Tuesday)
**Do ducks get Anal Fissures?**
So I thought I would do my update a little earlier today as I had concerns that you were all worrying about my impending Gammon steak BM. I understand what a caring bunch you all are and no doubt you will have been unable to get any sleep last night worrying about me, is that so guys?...... guys?.......guys? ….. hello….. hello… are you there?...... guys?....... JEEZ WHAT AN UN-CARING BUNCH YOU ARE!!!!
So today there was no BM, I have had not had any need to go whatsoever. I think Mr Fissure is probably planning one last huge surprise party for me before he says his final farewell. It’s going to be awful when it happens now…..arrghhhhhhh!
So today my pain level has stayed around 0.5 and to be honest I hardly feel anything anymore, no soreness, no pain, no fissure sensations, no nothing.
In all honesty I could probably return to work tomorrow without any problems however at the moment to help protect me from infection I am taking 2-3 baths per day. By returning to work so soon would prevent me from doing this so I intend to stick to my plan and return next Monday.
So it’s been a fairly relaxing day, I have played on the internet, drafted a few emails, had a little walk and carried out the 23,462 little chores my girlfriend left for me before heading off to work (apparently its good for my recovery)
In order to get my daily chore list below 20,000 tasks I have an idea for tomorrow… I am going to the park to feed the ducks as there is no way possible she could incorporate anymore tasks for me that way. Ohh and I know I worried you all a bit there with my duck feeding but you need not worry as I will be feeding them wholemeal bread…. We don’t want to be giving all them ducky’s anal fissures now do we?

Re: My LIS Diary - March 2012 & fully healed in 4 weeks

POST LIS – DAY #7 (Wednesday)
**A Day of Reflection**
So a week has passed since my LIS surgery and today I thought I would make an inspection (using a mirror). The bruising and swelling have reduced considerably; in fact the bruising has gone altogether. What I did notice though is a small lump exactly at the same position as the incision wound, it is not causing me any pain but there is always the worry of infection. When I left the hospital I was given the business card of the Colo-rectal specialist nurse with the instruction to call her 24/7 if I ever had any concerns. So I gave her a call and it turns out that this is completely normal and I need not worry unless it causes me pain or starts bleeding. I also took the opportunity to mention the pink soiling I get each day, apparently this is also completely normal and should clear in a few weeks.
Well today I had the dreaded Gammon Steak BM and to be honest it was pretty large and quite dry which probably wasn’t helped by my reduced water intake (I forget to drink it!). It didn’t hurt and I had no fissure pain or spasms however it did slightly irritate the incision wound and a small amount of soreness and itching has been experienced throughout the morning but nothing more than discomfort.
Today I also booked my one month follow up appointment as requested by my CRS whilst in hospital. To do this I have to call my medical insurance provider for pre-authorization however this was already covered in the cost of the procedure apparently. So whilst speaking with the insurance company I cheekily asked what the cost of my whole experience was and surprisingly enough she detailed it all out to me. So for the purposes of anyone in the UK who may be fed up with the NHS or would prefer to go private here are the details:
Firstly please bear in mind that my hospital is in Central London and anything in Central London whether it be food, drink, hotels or whatever it will always include a huge premium over any other part of the country. Also it is on Harley Street which means they can basically charge what the hell they want and finally when my insurance company asked me to choose a CRS I picked the very best I could. So here is the cost of my surgery for LIS only (it does not include any other procedures such as fissurectomy, etc.)
24 hour hire of private en-suite hospital room with breakfast lunch & dinner including nursing care and all necessary medication Ј865
Operating Theatre cost including ECU, equipment hire, nursing staff and medical supplies Ј1,025
Surgeons Fee for LIS procedure Ј250
Anesthetist Cost including medication Ј180
TOTAL COST OF LIS SURGERY Ј2,320
Also I had to pay for take away prescription pain killers which came to around Ј22
Another cost to bear in mind are the consultations, I had three consultations pre-surgery @ Ј180 each (The follow up consultation is covered within the surgery cost)
As for me I am still doing well, I don’t suffer pain anymore, I go out for walks and are starting to love my life again.
This afternoon I went to St James Park and fed the ducks, I also took some monkey nuts and fed the squirrels. The Squirrels are very tame here and you can coax them to come and sit on your knee and munch away on their food. It was great just sitting there without a care (or pain) in the world and it made me reflect on the past six months. I understand that if you are reading my diary you are either comparing LIS notes, are scheduled for surgery or are suffering from Anal Fissures. I don’t know if any of the other veterans on the board feel the same but when I think about what I have been through and then I see newbies come to the board with the same problems I find it quite upsetting.
Anyway today I am taking a break from the wise cracks and I hope every single one of you is having a pain free day
